Learning of the Armenian Genocide

Sara Anderson, Jennie Garabedian, and Mari Firkatian heard stories directly from their ancestors who survived the Armenian Genocide. Each one of them were exposed to the reality of the Armenian Genocide at a young age, such a young age that at times they wouldn't completely understand the horrific stories being told until after they grew up. Exploring the moment when these women initially comphrended and grasped the Armenian Genocide is crucial to this exhibit.

Sara, Jennie, and Mari demonstrate that pinpointing the exact moment of learning and being exposed to information about the genocide, even across generations, is elusive. The awareness of this historic event remains ingrained in them and is enriched by the narratives passed down by ancestors who experienced it firsthand. Across generations, descendants are connected to their historical heritage, which serves as a fundamental aspect of their identity.
